Eating Disorder Support in Wollongong

Eating disorders are psychological conditions that can affect anyone and cause changes to our relationship with food, body image and changes in our eating behaviours. Everyone's experience and recovery from an eating disorder is unique and experiences may include restrictive food intake, bingeing, or compensatory behaviours such as purging or over-exercising. When left untreated, eating disorders can lead to signfiicant physical, emotional and social health concerns. At Mind Mode we foster a health at every size and shape approach and our trained dieticians and clinicians work with you and your support systems to create a collaborative, individualised treatment plan suited to your needs. We encourage anyone concerned about themselves or others to seek support around this from trained professionals

Understanding Contributing Factors for Eating Disorder

There is no single cause of an eating disorder. Contributing factors may include:

  • Biological influences, such as genetics or neurobiology.
  • Psychological traits, including perfectionism, impulsivity, or low self-esteem.
  • Cultural and environmental factors, such as media exposure or social pressure.
  • Dieting behaviours and past experiences with food or weight-related stigma.
  • Recognising these factors can support early intervention and personalised care.

Multidisciplinary Support for Recovery

Recovery from an eating disorder typically involves the coordinated care of a multidisciplinary team. This may include:

  • Psychologists or counsellors to support mental health and behavioural change
  • Accredited Practising Dietitians to provide nutritional guidance
  • General Practitioners to monitor medical health
  • Psychiatrists or other specialists, when needed

At Mind Mode Psychology & Wellness, we aim to provide collaborative and compassionate care in a safe, non-judgmental environment.
