Welcome to the Mind Mode online CBT group program for adolescents (aged 13-17). This is a program that uses the techniques found in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which has been shown to be one of the best methods of therapy to address symptoms of Anxiety and Mood issues.
We know that mental health issues often begin in adolescents and so Mind Mode has designed this program as both an educational one to prevent mental health issues from arising, as well as help the participants to develop skills and treat their symptoms of anxiety and low mood.
It is important to know that this program does not replace the benefits a participant may derive from attending individual therapy, but can act as a foundation that allows better engagement and sets participants up with the knowledge of how and why we might think and feel the things we do, and some general knowledge on how to change those thoughts and feelings. There may not be an opportunity to focus on an individual and conduct extended risk assessments and therefore this program is not suited to individuals experiencing high suicidality or self-harm.
This program is special however, as Mind Mode would also like to offer 2 individual sessions per attendee in order to first assess any needs that may be able to be integrated into the program, as well as one further along to do a ‘deep dive’ into skill development. These sessions will be bulk billed under the participant’s mental health care plan which can be obtained from their GP. The group will also have limited places to ensure quality of care for those involved.
The program will run for 12x 2hr sessions and will cover:
· Psychoeducation on Depression
· Core Beliefs
· Psychoeducation on Anxiety
· Understanding and using emotions
· Coming out of panic
· Behavioural activation
· Boundary setting
· The Soothe System and Self-Care
· Effective methods of communication
· Striking a balance
· Unhelpful thinking and the ABCDEF model
· Creating a wellness plan
Mind Mode is offering this program initially as a FREE program over the summer of 2021/2022 with a referral and mental health care plan from your GP. Participants will need to commit to ALL sessions:
Thursday afternoons from 4pm-6pm beginning on the 18th of November, every week until the 3rd of February 2022.
This will be a pilot program and participants will be asked to complete feedback forms during the process in order for us to be able to refine and hone the course and its components. The pilot program will also be recorded in order to be further evaluated and to be used as educational material for future Mind Mode employees who will be bound by Confidentiality and Privacy law.
Certain sections may also be used to provide material for future public online resources. These sections will only contain the facilitator providing material and will not include either the faces or voices of participants.
